Recto: Study of a woman glancing over her shoulder. Verso: Two toddlers, possibly a study for artwork intended for her sisters’ The Children
Framed (ref: 8791)
Pen and ink 10 x 8 in. (25.4 x 20.3 cm)
Provenance: Roger Folley; Alasdair Dunbar; Hammer Mill Oast Collection
Forever exploring possibilities in line drawing while not in any sense abandoning the draughtsmanship for which she was celebrated, Dunbar shows here what she can achieve with a fairly strict economy of line. This has come with experience; her early line drawings were much more lavish. We can presume that the coquettish woman on the recto has no connection with the toddlers on the verso.
